Thank you so much for stopping by! I’m Dawn, well technically Kathryn Dawn, but unless I’m filling out official documents, it’s just Dawn. After losing my mother at twelve, I started painting and it was the first time I realized that color could hold emotion when words couldn’t.
Years later, I came back to painting during a long stretch of health challenges—and haven’t put the brush down since. What started as a coping tool has become something deeper: a way to create clarity, movement, and connection.
My work is abstract, textural, and led by heart. I paint to process, to play, and to capture the feeling of something familiar—like a place you've never been but somehow know. So much of my inspiration stems from the ocean —not just in my wave paintings, but in everything I create. It’s the vast beauty, the quiet power, the rhythm and energy of it all that I try to translate into my work: deep, steady, a little wild, a little calm.
I call Austin home, where I live with my husband and our two kids. I make art that lives in the in-between: part emotion, part landscape, part something you just recognize—even if you don’t know why.
